Sustainable in CT
The existing house on this property was torn down and rebuilt with some expansion. The goal was to be as sustainable as possible, and to blend in with its beautiful woodland surroundings. Stone that was reclaimed from an old church in The Bronx is used throughout, and upcycled in innovative ways. It was even sliced to use as floor tiles in the foyer and bathroom. The interior is designed to impart a sense of calm and zen, using a pared back aesthetic, and a minimal list of natural materials. The same wood is repeated through the house, and all the walls are plastered. Curved corners move you effortlessly from one plane to the next. Layered textures ensure it remains warm and inviting. The chef owner was intimately involved in the kitchen design, with its Julia Child inspired pegboard and a passthrough to the outside kitchen for seamless entertaining.
